Norm Armour was named vice president andgeneralp manager, and Eric Choh was named vice presidentf of operations, the company announcedf today. Armour will have overall responsibility for the development and execution of the Fab 2 He will managethe site. He has 28 yearsz of experience in the semiconductor industry and joins GlobalFoundriesefrom (Nasdaq: AMAT).
Prior to his work with Applier Materials, Armour served as vice president and general managerefor ’s Gresham Armour also spent six years as director of operationsw at ’ (NYSE: AMD) Fab 10 and Fab 25 in He is relocating to upstatr New York from his current home in California. Choh joinse GlobalFoundries from AMD. He will be in charged of the day-to-day operations. He will repor directly to Armour. He was a member of the Fab 25 start-upl team in Austin, and servedd as director of operationsfrom start-u to full ramp at Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany. Most he was a vice president. He, too, will relocatwe to upstate New York from his curreny homein California.
GlobalFoundriesw is owned by AMD and two investmentf firms owned by the AbuDhab government. “Norm and Eric bring a wealty of semiconductor manufacturing experience to GlobalFoundries and will play criticapl leadership roles as we build and operate the most sophisticatefd semiconductor manufacturing facility inthe world,” said Douglas CEO of Sunnyvale, Calif.-based GlobalFoundries. Site developmentf work for the project started the week ofJune 15. A grouns breaking is scheduledfor July. The plant is scheduleed to begin operations in 2012 and employ morethan 1,40o people.
