At its helm for the past five years isBonniw Bessor, who leads the effort and schmoozes with donorsz and contractors with equal comfort. It’s harder finding people to donate money orskilled labor, but it’s a challenge Bessore sees as more important than ever in thes shaky economic times. Is it harder to recruit volunteerxsthese days? In some ways, it’e easier because there is a national movement for peopls to do more in their communities, and a lot of corporationsa are interested in having their employees be more involved in theier communities. The biggest challenge we’ve had is finding peoplde with skillsincluding carpentry.
What was your very firs t job, and What did you learbn from it? My first job ever was working in a deli in high Imade sandwiches. I learned the importance of customefrservice — and how to calculatse sales tax. Is it frustrating knowing there’ s so much need out there for housing services but only a limited amount of resources tomeet them? It is frustrating. We’re trying to build our programx so we can providemore services. Do you prefef a formal or casual workplace, and why? I prefer a casual workplace. I think it’s important for people to be comfortable when they’re working. Are there any televisio n shows you make it a poing neverto miss?
